It seems astounding to me that I get to get up in the morning a few times each semester, head to my church, and play continuo for performances of Bach cantatas. This morning we did BWV 150 and the lovely early wedding cantata BWV 196. Each time I have the opportunity to do this, I am reminded of Beethoven's famous statement, "Bach sollte nicht Bach, sondern Meer heissen". (Bach should not be called Bach [brook], instead, he should be called sea.) Music that was written over 250 years ago still has the ability to inspire a dedicated group of musicians to come together to experience it again. Congratulations to Michala Martin on a wonderful Masters recital. There were moments of real beauty today for all that attended.
